Can you please introduce yourself? Who is Vikram Deo?
I am Vikram Deo, Bangalore based market research professional in a web services company and the whole and sole owner of the blog Not Another Mobile Phone Blog.
What is Namblog.com?
This blog started as my personal blog, where I used to write about stuff related to technology, cricket and movies. Later on I developed a deep interest in the field of mobile phones and started tracking the big wigs like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung LG etc. Then, last year I changed my blogging focus only to mobile phones and started blogging about them and named the blog as, Not Another Mobile Phone Blog. I selected this name as I wanted the blog to be unique.
What inspired you to start Nampblog.com? What got you into blogging?
My love for mobile phones and to know more about inspired me to start Not Another Mobile Phone Blog. Blogging is something I was always fascinated with; from the day I came to know about it. It is one of the most popular and easy medium to connect with like minded people out there and share thoughts/ideas and knowledge. Blogging also helps me in improving my writing skills.
How much time do you spend blogging? Do you blog full time?
I am not a full time blogger, I have a job to do and I dedicate 2 to 3 hours a day blogging, looking for interesting content. Mobile phone’s blogging focuses more on looking out for information leaks, rumors and new product launches. But going forward I do want to blog full time and in these times of recession it might save me from going bankrupt he he he just kidding. But I do take blogging very seriously.
What do you do to bring in readers? Who is your audience?
Good content is the key to bring as many readers to your blog. Apart from that, I use lot of social media like Orkut, Facebook, Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit to bring readers to my blog. As I have said earlier, even if readers come to my blog thru these channels and don’t find good content, they will anyway leave, so good content is a MUST for any blogger. Everyday I am improving myself when it comes to content and try to satisfy my readers.
What other blogs do you keep an eye too? Can you share some URLs?
There are hundreds of blogs on mobile phones, the ones which I like are:
• IntoMobile
• Engadget Mobile
• S60 Blog
• Nokia WOM World
• GSM Arena
• Nokia Beta Labs Blog
And of course I love http://www.nampblog.com a.k.a Not Another Mobile Phone Blog
What is the most difficult part of blogging for you? What is the easiest?
The most difficult part of blogging is zeroing down on content that will appeal to your readers and once you get that idea, writing it is the easiest one, at least for me.
What do you find gratifying as a blogger?
The most gratifying things as a blogger to me are readers enjoying the kind of content I publish and getting back to me with their comments, appreciation, feedback and rants. I take criticism from my readers very seriously and try to satisfy their information needs by working on it.
What can you advice to someone who wants to start a blog?
Be very sure of what you want to blog about. Study the industry in and out, link with your readers and like-minded bloggers. Sharing of ideas and links ALWAYS helps in blogging. Everytime you write something, sit back and read it like any other reader, if you can think like a reader of a blog and can connect with what you have written then your content will be a big hit with your readers.
